Jonathan Freemantle Arthurs

Photographer / Visual Artist

Born and raised in sunny Los Angeles, CA to Jamaican and Belizean parents, Jonathan Freemantle Arthurs is no stranger to the life of a creative and visual artist. His father was instrumental in introducing him to the artistic world of photography as he constantly carried a camera with him through all their family excursions and experiences.

Today, as a husband, a father of 3, and an entrepreneur, Jonathan has followed in the legacy of his father, capturing life’s precious moments for all to see.

Inspired by timeless visionaries like: Gordon Parks, Leonard Freed, Bruce Talamon, Walter Looss, Jamel Shabazz, Danny Clinch, Jonathan Mannion, Estevan Oriol, Eli Reed and Chi Modu, just to name a few. He is a self-taught artist who continues to study and hone the craft of photography using a 35mm camera and ‘Medium Format Photography.’

Jonathan is passionate and proud about capturing the beauty and essence that exists throughout California, all while creating a positive visual representation of the Black community. He seeks to document various sides of Black culture, from his artistic and poignant point of view. He is eager to collaborate with forward thinking artists, brands, and individuals that seek to showcase their own stories through commercial and portrait work.
